Fish Tank
Themes in fish tank conform with the realism of a working class life, the themes are stereotypical given to the working class such as being a single mother as we can tell because we see that the children have no dad.The mother is also not much older than the daughter which is common in situations of living in a rougth estate. Other themes are under age drinking an example of this is when the main character takes cider up to an empty apartment and drinks it, this also conforms because living in such a area there is no parental control and no rules on behalf of the teens. Another theme that conforms with social realism is the unemployment in the area we see this by the adults not working in different cut scenes of the area, this is due to them being lazy and uneducated.
Representation that are shown in the film are very stereotypical of Dagenham such as the mother who wears a slutty outfit an example of this when she walks out of the apartment and we see the mother in a short skirt and high heels which is stereotypical to Essex women.Another stereotypical trait is the fact that young little girls smoke and drink, which carrys on of the theme of the children don't have parental control. The pikies in the film are very stereotypically represented, in the film they live in caravans and dress very poorly with a raging pit bull. Chav's are also represented with the stereotypical in what they wear such as joggers, tank tops, and have there hair in a pony tale.
Mise en scene of the film conforms with the realism of how the working class live, they have done this by:
- Air Max Trainers
- Tracksuit
- Earrings (hooped)
- Heavy Make up
- High heels
- Short skirt
-this is very stereotypical but it is what most people from a council estate wear.
The setting has to be very very realistic, in this film they use a real estate and apartment, when it is filmed like this it gives the film an affect like its filmed from the "kitchen sink."
Music & Sound effects
-Garage
-reggae
-RnB
-Allot of this music is from black culture, but most white young teens listen to that certain music.
Camera & editing
-Shot like your right with the character the whole way through way through the film, seems more realistic.
-Shows a close up of her putting her hand on his shoulders indicating that she is beginning to trust him.
-We see shots of her dancing escaping the world she lives in. They indicate that the estate she lives in is very dangerous by showing us a close up of a nailed wall.
-When she dances for him, the sun rises, she is dancing in the dark while the light is over his eyes enthersising that he is fixated on her.
-When the main girl visit es the private estate we see a shot of both of the main girl and a women who is from the area and looks down on the teen, there was also a contrast of what they wore.
-There is also a contrast between fridges, hers was empty but his was full of food.
Dialogue
-Swearing
-bad language
-eg "Cunt"
-Accents
-cockney
-Irish
Everyone swears now days, in Hollywood's films this is normally sugar coated, but in such a gritty lifestyle its in everyday vocabulary.
